Beware of the label “natural” – it doesn’t necessarily mean anything other than a company trying to score marketing points. You should be looking for labels such as organic and with logos from certifying bodies (e.g. ecocert). You can also get into the habit of looking at the ingredients…if you see stuff like “refined cane sugar” or “fructose syrup” as like the 1st or 2nd ingredient…egads! beware!
Re: peanut butter: you should be looking for organic and sugar-free (and it’s really not that much more expensive than kraft!). In terms of other nut butters, you can try almond butter – it’s a bit more expensive but is so yummy and is really much better for you (full of lovely vitamin e and other anti-oxidants)
The key to a healthier eating habit, is starting somewhere. You can start making small changes in your diet. Just keep the points noted above in mind. Until next time.
